The goal of my community work and public speaking is to give key financial literacy information in a way that is compelling, content rich and applicable to artists from any medium and career stage.
While basic financial literacy and education are lacking in almost every segment of our society, artists are some of the least likely professionals to receive advice or education in financial planning. Artists face financial issues similar to entrepreneurs and the self-employed, but professionals in non-arts fields have more resources, information and professional advice written specifically for their field of practice to help them navigate their career challenges.
My workshops bring together the knowledge I gained as a UBS financial advisor managing high net worth clients combined with my work of the last 4 years serving hundreds of artists on the topics most pertinent to them--saving, investing, managing debt, uneven income and multiple revenue streams.
I have 2 main workshops geared to artists at the emerging and mid-career level:
The Institute for Native American Art
I have visited multiple classes at IAIA working with undergraduate and graduate students on key financial topics in group presentations and 1:1 work.
Kansas City Art Institute Pro Practice Center
Giving a session on managing uneven income
Sundance Institute’s online learning and community platform for independent filmmakers at all stages of their creative journeys. I gave a talk on long term financial planning.
The City of Las Cruces received funding from the Economic Development Department of NM and engaged me to do two workshops followed by 1:1 sessions with artists from the southern region of New Mexico
